A Day in Aptos: Our Favorite Local Stops

A local's guide to spending a day in one of Santa Cruz County's most charming coastal communities.

Whether you're visiting for the weekend, considering a move, or have called Aptos home for years, there's something special about spending the day here. From towering redwoods and sandy beaches to locally owned shops and neighborhood favorites, Aptos offers a slower pace of life that's easy to appreciate.

If someone asked us how we'd spend the perfect day in Aptos, here's where we'd send them.

Start Your Morning at The Forest of Nisene Marks

Few places capture the beauty of Aptos quite like The Forest of Nisene Marks State Park.

With more than 30 miles of hiking, biking, and walking trails, it's a favorite destination for locals looking to escape into the redwoods. Whether you're taking a leisurely stroll or tackling one of the longer trails, the park offers a peaceful start to the day and a reminder of why so many people love living here.

Local Tip: Go early in the morning if you can. The cool air and quiet trails make it one of the most relaxing places in the county.

Grab Lunch at Aptos Village

After a morning outdoors, head over to Aptos Village.

The village has become a gathering place for the community, offering restaurants, cafés, boutique shopping, and regular community events throughout the year. It's a great place to slow down, grab lunch, and simply enjoy the atmosphere.

If you're exploring Aptos for the first time, spending an hour wandering the village is well worth it.

Local Tip: Aptos St. BBQ is a must-try if it is your first time visiting town!

Pick Up Something Special at Deluxe Foods

No local guide would be complete without mentioning Deluxe Foods.

Known for its incredible deli, gourmet groceries, and locally sourced products, it's one of those places many Aptos residents find themselves stopping at several times a week. Whether you're putting together a picnic for the beach or looking for a unique gift, Deluxe Foods has become a neighborhood staple.

Local Tip: Great way to support a local small business!

Spend the Afternoon at Seacliff State Beach

No visit to Aptos feels complete without time by the ocean.

Seacliff State Beach offers wide stretches of sand, scenic walking paths, and one of Santa Cruz County's most recognizable landmarks—the SS Palo Alto, often referred to as the Cement Ship.

Even after storms and changing coastal conditions over the years, Seacliff remains one of the area's most popular places to relax, walk, and watch the waves roll in.

Local Tip: Walk the bluff trail before heading down to the sand. It's an easy walk with great views of Monterey Bay and often less crowded than the beach itself.

End the Day with Marianne's Ice Cream

There's something nostalgic about ending a beach day with a scoop of Marianne's.

A longtime Santa Cruz County favorite, Marianne's has been serving handcrafted ice cream for generations and remains a tradition for many local families. Whether you're trying one of their classic flavors or something seasonal, it's a sweet way to wrap up the day.

Local Tip: Look for alternate parking on State Park Drive. The on-site parking’s a little tight, but the ice cream is sooo worth it!

Why We Love Aptos

One of the things we appreciate most about Aptos is how effortlessly it blends natural beauty with everyday convenience.

You can spend the morning hiking beneath redwoods, enjoy lunch in the village, relax at the beach, and still be home in time to watch the sunset.

It's this balance that makes Aptos such a wonderful place to live—and one of the many reasons we're proud to call Santa Cruz County home.
